HOOKED ON CHORAL CLASSICS
SEP 6TH & 7TH 2025
Conductor - Paul Tasker
Pianist - Sandra Williams
Featuring - 17 Piece Chamber Orchestra

All choral societies have the challenge of preparing and presenting a range of concerts for their members and audiences. The Murray Concert Choir has been presenting concerts of popular songs from movies and musicals, Christmas and classical programs for several years now. Concerts of "greatest hits" from different genres have been very popular with many choral groups. The range of great classical choral works is huge, and we have selected a beautiful list of classics in three areas: sacred, secular and contemporary. Music from the cathedral, opera house and movies and TV is featured in our Hooked on Choral Classics concert. Music lovers of all tastes will find something they like
and something they don't know but now love as well.
We open and close with two of the greatest choral "bangers", O Fortuna and the Hallelujah Chorus and many of the great choral works in between: Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, Faure, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Verdi and Franck. Our modern selection includes music from Vangelis, Doctor Who, The Vicar of Dibley, Henry V, The Hobbit and more! You'll find music you love and music you wished you knew earlier. Combining with our 17 piece chamber orchestra, the choir will create beautiful music in many styles and genres for you.

THE PATIENCE OF JOB-
SEP 21st & 22nd 2024
Conductor - Dr Kieran Crichton
Pianist - Sandra Williams
Murray Concert Choir welcomes Dr Kieran Crichton as the Musical Director for the coming concert, The Patience of Job. Dr Crichton has a wealth of choral music experience which he brings to the presentation of this concert. The pieces in the concert have been selected to reflect different aspects of the human condition. The centre piece is a selection of three lessons from The Lamentations of Job by the sixteenth century Dutch composer Roland De Lassus. Job is the biblical figure of the patient, long suffering good man who nevertheless argues with his God. Other aspects of the human condition include a sense of wonder at one’s place in the universe (I Am Humbled); the sadness of losing a friend (Angel); the longing for lasting love (Anyone); preparing for life’s end (Crossing The Bar); kindness and peacefulness in old age (Sure On This Shining Night).
This concert is full of lovely music which is sure to delight patrons.
